CHIWORK 2025 at CWI

CHIWORK 2025 opening welcome by Shadan and Abdo

From June 23-25, 2025, the 4th Annual Symposium on Human-Computer Interaction for Work (CHIWORK 2025) took place at CWI in Amsterdam. The Symposium on Human-Computer Interaction for Work (CHIWORK) aims to grow our understanding of how HCI will support work in the future. Advances in computing technology are rapidly changing the way we work. Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a critical aspect of this ongoing change, as a way to support workers in successfully navigating fast-paced changes in working environments. The theme this year was “Threads of Work: Weaving People, Technology, and Purpose.”

The general chairs, Abdallah El Ali (CWI / Utrecht University; CHI NL Chair) and Shadan Sadeghian (University of Siegen), welcomed 94 in-person and 28 hybrid participants. The Technical Program Committee received 79 full paper submissions (increase of 119% over last year), where 28 papers were accepted (35% acceptance rate), 45 rejected (incl. 6 desk rejects). There was also 1 Best Paper, 3 Honorable Mentions, and also awards for best Late-breaking Works and Demo awards. The Main and Adjunct proceedings are now online in the ACM Digital Library.

All details on the conference program can be found online on the CHIWORK 2025 website. On Monday, the program included five Workshops and the Student Consortium. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the main program included papers, demos, late-breaking works, conversation, and the social events. Prof. dr. ir. Felienne Hermans (who also spoke with CHI NL during E&B 2024) delivered the keynote on Tuesday, where she spoke about “The (in)evitable deskilling of professionals”. Her talk helped weave the threads of not just work, but our discussions in those days about the evolving role of GenAI and skills.

CHIWORK 2025 was made possible by the generous support of our partners and sponsors: Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), ACM SIGCHI, Cake Researcher, CHI Nederland (CHI NL), and by the great efforts of the CHIWORK 2025 Steering and Organizing committee.
